Bright future for winter sport
£200,000 of funding from Sport England to support talented skiers and snowboarders
Bright future for winter sport As the 2014 Winter Olympics draw to a close, it's not just Team GB that has been chasing medals this week. More than 500 budding skiers with aspirations of competing at the 2018 Winter Olympics took to the slopes of Bormio as part of English Ski Championships. Organised by Snowsport England, who have received £200,000 of funding from Sport England to support talented skiers and snowboarders, the championships give the up and coming skiing athletes the chance to get competition experience.
“The championships we run here in Bormio are an access point for many athletes to have a go at racing, and a chance to enjoy the challenges of competing,” said Tim Fawke, Snowsport England Chief Executive. “Hopefully some athletes here this year will go on to represent the country at the Olympics.”
