England Netball ‘Teacher of the Year’ 2015
Higham Lane School’s Sarah Davies Award Winner
Higham Lane School’s Sarah Davies is still celebrating having fought off worthy competition to win the England Netball ‘Teacher of the Year’ Goalden Globe Award for 2015. Representing the West Midlands, Sarah attended the glittering 20’s themed award ceremony at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry and received her award from National Assistant Coach Colette Thompson.
Sarah has taught and coached netball at Higham Lane School since 1994 and during that time has lead eleven teams to the finals of the prestigious England Netball National Schools Competition. For more than 20 years Sarah has been the figurehead of netball at the school and has nurtured new and inexperienced players, helping them develop into talented young athletes.
Friend and colleague Laura Blunt explains that Sarah’s aim is ‘to make every player and team the best they can be and she could not give any more to her players and teams in the pursuit of this. Sarah runs a club or fixture every lunchtime and afterschool, as well as shooting club before school and at break times. If she is not running a netball practice or match she is planning netball session or talking about netball and her teams!’
Sarah is held in the highest regards by colleagues, pupils and parents alike, with glowing recommendations submitted in support of her nomination for the award. The performance, development and welfare of her young players are paramount both on and off the court, with one parent commenting that ‘Sarah’s love of the sport is obvious for all to see and her dedication to helping her players develop is at the forefront of her motivation’.
Warwickshire County Netball Association, Netball West Midlands and England Netball, consider themselves very lucky to have such a dedicated teacher and coach helping promote and develop the sport and nurture its young players and wish to extend their sincere thanks and congratulations.
