County Athlete Programme

What is it?

The County Athletes programme (CAP) is a new sports bursary scheme for 2008 which provides fin6bancial support to talented young sports people living within Warwickshire with the aim of supporting Warwickshire athletes to compete at the London 2012 Olympic Games and at other major events on the sporting calendar.”

In this first year, over 80 applications were received from talented young sports people from across Warwickshire, and as a result, 14 budding sports stars who compete in a variety of sports from badminton to wheelchair basketball have been selected to receive funding through the programme.

Funded by Warwickshire County Council and administered by CSW Sport, the 14 successful applicants will each receive a grant from the three-tired funding package to aid their development over the next year.

Further information on the 2009 CAP programme will be available on the CSW Sport website from January 2009. Although CAP is only currently available to young people living within Warwickshire, this programme is intended as a first step towards a much broader provision for talented athletes which we hope to develop across Coventry, Solihull and Warwickshire in future years.
