
The teams which will play in Coventry as part of the London 2012 Olympic Football Tournament have been announced and the city council’s leader has expressed his excitement.
The Belarus, Mexico, Gabon, Korea Republic, Switzerland, Japan, Honduras, Senegal, New Zealand and UAE men’s teams will play in Coventry as well as the Japan, Canada, Sweden, South Africa, New Zealand and Cameroon women’s teams.
Cllr John Mutton, leader of Coventry City Council, said: “It is exciting to finally know which teams will be playing in Coventry as part of the London 2012 Olympic Football Tournament.
“The fact we know who will be playing in the city and on which dates makes the fact Coventry is set to become an Olympic co-Host City seem all the more real.
“We look forward to welcoming these countries to Coventry and showcasing our city to a global audience.
“The atmosphere at the Play-Off match on Monday really underlined just how much appetite there is for Olympic Football in Coventry.
“We hope to see as many people as possible visit the City of Coventry Stadium and share in this once in a lifetime opportunity.”
